The are holy mountains in (almost) every culture. They are a manifestation and personification of higher powers. They are where the gods dwell, it is from there that the gods speak. These mountains are shrouded by a holy aura of untouchable sublimity. It is not allowed, for example, to climb Mount Kailash in Tibet, only to walk around it.
